Our History.....
SWBR was founded in 1999 by three southwest ND barrel racers who wanted a close place to season their young horses. The girls decided to develop their own association with rules derived from their "dream" jackpot. Cheap Fees, so green horses could be hauled without breaking the bank. Good Payouts so when those horses gathered a check, it would pay for the entries at least! They also wanted simple rules and good ground to make the event as enjoyable as possible. SWBR has changed directors a few times, but the mission has stayed the same.
Now, nearly 5 years later, SWBR is still the leading jackpot association for South West North Dakota. Jackpots are held weekly in New England, ND. SWBR offers a competitive payout, good ground, simple, fair rules and a fun atmosphere. Memberships are optional, and there is no "permit" fee for non-members.
SWBR is and always has been a non-profit organization. Donations in the past 5 years have totaled over $2,000. The success of SWBR has hinged largely on our sponsors. With Dickinson companies such as Woody's Feed and Grain and Schmidt Transmission in our corner since we began, we feel we have the best support in the state!
In 2004 we were thrilled to add K-T Trucking from Rhame; Bowman Sales and Service; Diamond S Ranch of Marmarth; Cedar Ridge Elk Ranch of Rhame; Jerome's Distributing of Dickinson; West Dakota Veterinary Clinic of Dickinson, Continental Real Estate of Dickinson; Kukowski Land Company of Dickinson; Painted Badlands Ranch of Medora; Kelley's McDonald's of Dickinson; Dickinson Dental Center; Boespflug Trailers and Feed; and Parkway Ford;Duke's Saddlery and Pawn; Stockmen's Ranch Supply; Lee's Farrier Service, Roughrider Appraisal and Dave's Saddle Shop, all of Dickinson, to our team. Because of thier support we were able to run two six weeks series as well as a $1,000 added money jackpot last August! Their support is the best encouragement we could ask for! Please take the time to thank them for their support!
